New Hampton Municipal Light Plant

The electric utility for the City of New Hampton is located at 921 Canty Avenue, New Hampton, Iowa 50659.  The municipal facility operates and maintains an electric generation, transmission, and distribution system that supplies electricity to over 2,000 customers, and has additional diesel backup capable of serving these customers during inclement weather if necessary.

WATER UTILITY

The New Hampton water system consists of nearly 26 miles of water mains, two elevated storage tanks with a combined capacity of 800,000 gallons and two city wells that yield a combined 1,625 gallons per minute.  Water rates in the City of New Hampton are as follows:

First 10,000 gallons $1.51 per 1,000 gallons
Second 10,000 gallons $1.31 per 1,000 gallons
Third 10,000 gallons $1.11 per 1,000 gallons
Fourth 10,000 gallons $  .91 per 1,000 gallons
All excess gallons $  .75 per 1,000 gallons

Minimum charge - $4.00 per month

WASTEWATER TREATMENT

New Hampton's Wastewater Treatment Facility has completed a major construction project.  The $2,700,000 project expands the capacity of the treatment system by approximately 50%, as well as greatly enhancing the efficiency of the treatment process.  The project is being financed with proceeds of a local option tax approved overwhelmingly by the voters in January, 1997, and the City expects no rate increases for this project.  Current rates are as follows:

First 3,000 gal of water billed $.00192 per gallon
Next 3,000 gal of water billed $.00160 per gallon
Next 5,200 gal of water billed $.00164 per gallon
Next 63,600 gal of water billed $.00151 per gallon
Next 299,200 gal of water billed $.00145 per gallon
Over 374,000 gal of water billed $.00144 per gallon

Minimum Charge - $4.80 per month

Sewer Facility Charge

Additional $4.00 per month, residential; $12.00 per month, commercial
