NEW HORIZONS-CHAMBER WORKING TOGETHER FOR NEW HAMPTON! PRIDE in our PAST, VISION for the FUTURE
The New Hampton Chamber of Commerce has been in operation since 1950. Project New Horizons, a community development group, was formed in the early '90's and soon after became a Main Street Iowa participant. The two groups merged in 1997 making one strong organization, New Horizons-Chamber. They continue to be a positive force in the community, working as a volunteer-driven organization in community betterment and business retention. New Horizons-Chamber's Mission: To enhance the quality of life for all people of New Hampton and Chickasaw County by encouraging and implementing social and economic activities which create a sense of home and community value. Business New Hampton has a healthy economic climate. The downtown boasts several specialty shops as well as two strong quilting shops, two pharmacies, two supermarkets and several convenience stores. New Hampton has four full-service banks, a family credit union, two motels, a fast-food restaurant, seven family restaurants, 3 of which offer banquest facilities. Many service-oriented businesses are also located in the central business district. A 44,000 square foot Pamida and a large farm supply store, Theisens, round out the retail businesses. New Hampton has a strong industrial base. Industries include Tri-Mark, Bay Valley Foods, Precision of New Hampton, and Sparboe Company. Mercy Medical Center is a 23 bed hospital and has nearly 20,000 patient visits each year. Committed to the needs of the community, Mercy Medical Center is a member of Mercy Health Services and offers convenient access to 14 different specialties. The New Hampton Community School District consists of approximately 1,420 students in grades K-12. There are also two parochial schools, St. Joseph's Community Catholic School (K-8) and St. John's School of Religion (9-12). Tourism New Hampton has several "draws" for tourists. One of the biggest is the Davis Rally, a Gold-Wing Motorcycle Rally which is held every year on the week-end following Labor Day. Heartland Days is held on the second weekend in June. This festival includes a large parade, queen contest, and entertainment and activity throughout the weekend. Magical Moments is held in December each year and has the Christmas Festival of Trees, horse-drawn wagon rides, entertainment, Parade of Lights and more. The Carnegie Cultural Center has seasonal exhibits as well as many interesting permanent exhibits. The New Hampton area also has two golf and country clubs with challenging nine hole golf courses and has abundant hunting opportunities around the area. A renovated Band Shell in Mikkelson Park hosts a variety of entertainment in May through September. This park also includes a swimming pool, wooden playground, several ball diamonds, nice picnic shelters and a walking track. Within a 20-minute drive of New Hampton is the famous Little Brown Church of Nashua, Old Bradford Pioneer Museum, and the Hawkeye Buffalo Ranch.
